Got an email from a local athlete? Here's the deal.
You received a pitch from someone like "Maya from Waco, D3 soccer at MVNU." It's real. Here's how it works and whether it's worth your time.
Who we are
NILPro is a subscription service that helps college, JUCO, and high school athletes — the ones too small for traditional agents — reach out to local businesses about small endorsement partnerships. The athlete writes their profile, chooses which businesses to partner with, and approves every message before it sends. We charge athletes a flat annual fee. We never take a cut of your deal, and you're never charged a platform fee.
Why this is worth your time
Local athletes aren't celebrities — they're something more valuable for a local business: trusted faces in a specific community. Here's why partnering with one can outperform traditional advertising for a local shop, restaurant, or gym:
- Hyper-targeted reach. A college athlete with 2,000 Waco-area Instagram followers is talking to your exact customer base. Every impression is someone who could actually walk through your door. Compare that to a Facebook ad with 30% wasted reach outside your service radius.
- Authentic word-of-mouth at scale. When a local athlete posts about your food or gym, it reads as a personal recommendation — not an ad. Conversion rates on personal endorsements run 3–5x higher than display ads.
- Community good-will dividends. Supporting a local student-athlete is its own story. Customers remember it. It's marketing and community investment rolled into one.
- Low commitment, small upside risk. Most deals run $1–$500. Even a single new repeat customer from the campaign pays for the entire partnership in under a month.
- No agency, no middlemen, no lock-in. You're dealing directly with the athlete through a relay tool. One email, one contract, one season. Nothing ongoing.
Why this athlete contacted you
You're local to their hometown or college town, and you match their interests (type of business, price point, local reputation). This isn't mass-blasted spam — every email is personalized to your specific business and every athlete reviewed the list before outreach started.
What they're asking for
Most deals fall into one of these categories:
- Product or service trades — a weekly meal, monthly gym membership, or periodic service in exchange for social posts tagging you. Lowest-cost option and the most common.
- Cash for posts — typically $1–$500 per sponsored Instagram post, depending on audience size and engagement.
- Appearances — $1–$500 for an in-store visit, grand opening, or signing event.
How to respond
Three options:
- Yes, as-is. Reply accepting the athlete's terms. We draft a simple one-page contract with those exact terms and send it to both of you for digital signature.
- Counter-offer. Reply with the terms you'd actually do (different price, different deliverables, different term length). Your counter goes to the athlete to accept, decline, or counter back.
- No thanks. Reply "not interested" or "unsubscribe." You're permanently removed from our entire athlete network — not just this athlete.
Compliance & fine print
If you do a deal: the athlete handles FTC #ad disclosure and any school NIL disclosure — both built into our contract templates. If you pay $600+ in a year, issue a 1099. Nothing unusual.
Still skeptical?
Fair. Reply directly to the email and ask whatever you want — verification of the athlete's eligibility, sample content, references, anything. Every message goes to a monitored inbox and gets a response within 24 hours.
Hi Rosa,
I'm Maya Reyes, a junior midfielder on the MVNU soccer team, originally from Waco. La Cocina de Abuela has been a favorite of mine and my family since I was in high school, and I'd like to propose a local partnership.
Why it works for La Cocina: my social following is concentrated in the Waco area — real local customers, not mass reach. Posts tagging your restaurant go directly to people who live within driving distance and already eat out locally. Low-cost, high-relevance exposure to the exact audience you already serve.
Proposed terms (any combination):
- Product trade: One meal per week during the fall season (16 weeks) in exchange for 1 Instagram post + 1 story per month tagging @lacocinadeabuela
- Cash per post: $40 per sponsored post, minimum 3 posts
- Combination: Open to any mix of the above
About me: 2,400 Instagram followers (~85% Waco-area), MVNU Women's Soccer starter, 2024 All-Conference selection. Content is family-friendly and on-brand for local businesses.
If any of this is of interest — or if you'd like to propose different terms — please reply to this email and I'll get back to you promptly. Full contract terms and a sample of my recent content are linked below.
